Just Like Nonni Used To Make

Nonni’s Biscotti

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from growing up in an Italian family, it’s that we hold food to a high standard.  This is especially true when it comes to Italian food.

I pity the person who tries to bring prepackaged sauce in a jar to my home.  We all have our vices, and this is one of mine.  The same goes for biscotti.  I’ve cracked one too many teeth on the brick-like imposters that so many coffee shops, restaurants and well intentioned friends tried to pass off as the real thing.

Imagine my surprise then, when on a weekend trip my Aunt produced a box of Nonni’s biscotti. (Nonni is the informal Italian word for grandmother)  I hesitantly grabbed one, braced my jaw and was dumbstruck by the fact that I was enjoying a store bought biscotti.

Upon returning to D.C. I’ve discovered Nonni’s at my local SuperFresh.  Check out their website to locate a store near you.  If you have an Italian friend in your life, or just enjoy good biscotti, these will impress even the biggest of skeptics.

The Italians have invented two great things in its history: double entry accounting and biscotti. While the latter isn’t as cool, it is still a delicious snack/dessert. I highly recommend partaking in this treat
