Summer has come and gone and Labor Day weekend is actually upon us. Most people are either looking to relax or take a weekend trip. One of my favorite spots on the east coast is St. Michaels, Maryland. It’s a quaint little town on the Chesapeake Bay, just a short drive from D.C.
There are cute little boutiques to stroll in and out of, fine dining galore and plenty of benches to sit and watch the sailboats drift by.
One spot, right on the water, is a great place to enjoy the sea salty air and feast on creatures from the ocean. Many hail it as a tourist trap (So be it), but if you’ve never been to St. Michaels then the Crab Claw makes for a fun and relaxed dinner.
It’s not a fine dining atmosphere…not even close. I’m talking paper over picnic tables, pitchers of beer and buckets of crab and shrimp. Ohh, and those really flattering plastic bibs they tie around your neck.
If the skies overhead are dark and cloudy, then skip this spot because the back deck overlooking the bay is the only way to enjoy this establishment. Take that factor out and you lose a big part of The Crab Claw’s charm.
Happy roadtripping, and enjoy the extra day this weekend! You’ve earned it!

The weather wasn’t exactly ideal when we went to St. Michaels, but the seafood was excellent! I would love go back in the fall when the leaves are changing.

We went to The Crab Claw twice and loved the food. When the weather is nice, it doesn’t get any better than sitting on the dock and enjoying the delightful food overlooking the harbor. A most memorable experience!
