Calling All DC Diners!

According to one of my favorite DC blogs, metrocurean and the Dupont Current Newspaper, the restaurants located on P street, west of Dupont Circle are suffering from the construction mayhem in that area.  Many are seeing a devastating drop in business and have the threat of closure hanging over their heads.

This is a sad sad story, and even sadder because one of my favorite casual D.C. seafood joints resides on P Street, between 20th and 21st Street.

Pesce is a quaint little restaurant with exposed brick walls, colorful fish art and a menu written on chalkboard.  It was the very first restaurant I stumbled upon when moving here and has held a special place in my heart ever since.  The staff is friendly, the food reliably good and the atmosphere is cozy yet vibrant.  I’ve taken small groups of family and friends and each time its been a relaxing and enjoyable evening.  Some have even described the spot as having a whimsical feel.  (Perhaps they had been reading the website, because Pesce uses that word as well.)

Their menu changes with the seasons, but I do recall having a monkfish dish that was memorable.  Advice from those who frequent the spot is the seafood pasta dishes never disappoint.  Prices range from $10-$29 (the higher being fish entrees) so many budgets can be happy here.  Check out their menu for details.

So, if you have been struggling to find a casual yet nice place to take your next date/parents/old friend, head west of Dupont Circle to Pesce.  If seafood’s not your thing, look to the variety of other restaurants in this small section of the city.  It would be a pity to see them all go.

yes, i agree the construction in this area is really bad right now, and it would be a tragedy to see these restaurants suffer any longer. therefore, i will make pesce my choice of restaurant in the near future. in the meantime, i frequent uni sushi for their fantastic lunchtime happy hour sushi specials, just down the block from pesce. this area of dupont circle is just so unique…check it out! or come visit me at work right around the corner!
