DCist-An Analysis of DC pizza

September 18th, 2007 · 2 Comments

The DCist today has an article on the best pizza in town.  It’s like they read my mind and I 100% agree with their conclusions…well, as much as I can.  I’ve been to Comet Ping Pong and 2 Amys, coming to similar conclusions after each visit.

At Comet you can taste the quality of the ingredients, the crust is the perfect amount of crispness without being burnt and the sauce has just the right amount of spice.

While I wasn’t impressed with 2 Amys crust, their ingredient variety was notable.  The cheese was flavorful (including bufala mozzerella, the best) and they had numerous toppings such as salami, proscuitto and ricotta.

If I had to pick a favorite, my vote is for Comet.  For me, the sauce wins in the end.  An added bonus: The restaurant is equipped with ping pong tables for another source of entertainment.  I wouldn’t head here on a date or for a serious dining experience.  The atmosphere is very family friendly, so expect small children running about.

To be honest, while I think the pizza at both establishments is good/fancy, I think DC has yet to be blessed with a pizza spot that provides the cheesy saucy slice of my dreams.  Perhaps Red Rocks will prevail.  Thus, the search for great DC pizza continues.

For now, I’ll stick with Potomac Pizza on an order-in basis.  It’s cheap and reliable.

What???? How could either you or the DCist miss The Italian Store??? Is it because it is too obvious a selection?

Very true. Though I can only vouch for their AMAZING subs. Next visit, I’ll give the pizza a try.
