After last week’s post on Graeter’s ice cream, I’ve been wandering around DC craving those seasonal fall flavors.  Imagine my delight when an intuitive friend brought home a container of Edy’s Limited Edition Pumpkin Ice Cream!  Not 5 minutes from when she walked into the door, we were digging into smooth pumpkin goodness.

I’m not usually keen on grocery store ice cream. (I’m talking the big containers, not the little cute “high-end” Haggen dazs or Ben & Jerrys.)  For one, I can’t finish the whole thing fast enough and end up with a half container of freezerburned nastiness.  At $5 a pop, that’s being wasteful.  Plus, I’m never in the mood for one flavor long enough to want to keep eating it as many times as there are servings.

These seasonal flavors seem to be the exception.  Not 2 days later that same friend brought home the Edy’s Limited Edition Apple Pie Ice Cream.  I think she has a conspiracy to expand my waistline.  That or she likes to see my eyes light up like a Christmas tree.  This time my spoon found it’s way to little chunks of pie crust and apple surrounded in a cinnamon flavored ice cream…ohh my!

She bought both flavors at our neighborhood Giant, but I’ve seen them at the SuperFresh as well.  Next time you’re hitting up the lean cuisines, stroll past the ice cream section and get in the fall spirit!
