In case you were curious…

October 29th, 2007 · No Comments

A while back I was asked to answer a questionnaire for the website familyoven.com.
Since people are always asking why I decided to blog and where I get my interest in food I thought I would share some of my answers below.  Enjoy!
Where did your blog name come from and why did you start blogging?
I’ve always had a […]

A halloween treat with a pinch of sick and a dash of twisted humor

October 24th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Since Halloween is just around the corner I though I would show a bit of my sick humor side and provide a link to a festive cake recipe that will make you gag, laugh and then smile all in one sitting.  Click here for a goldmine recipe amongst the many provided by members of familyoven.
Consider yourself warned:  What you […]

Palena Cafe - Getting your money’s worth

October 24th, 2007 · No Comments

Nothing is better than leaving a restaurant and feeling like you got your money’s worth.  Better yet are the times when you walk away thinking you would have paid more for your meal.  Believe me, with the prices in this city I rarely have to worry about such thoughts entering my head, but last Friday […]

To get the week long party started (Oct, 22nd-29th) they are offering $5 mezze, $5 cocktails and $5 desserts…a bargain in this city!
Never one to turn down a deal, I’ll be making my way to […]

It’s a challenge in our nation’s capital …

October 18th, 2007 · 2 Comments

UPDATE:
Arriving at B9 at 6:05pm the place was teeming with people waiting to get a taste of the “refrigerator temperature”/”good comfort food” short ribs. (Which type are they?  Keep reading)  I took my place in the makeshift line that wrapped around the dimly lit bar and waited patiently for my plate.  It took all of 5 […]

Ingredients…

October 16th, 2007 · No Comments

I know quotes are uber cheesy, but I was reading the ongoing chat with Ann Cashion (Former Chef/Owner of Cashion’s Eat Place, Co-Owner of Taqueria Nacionale and Co-Owner of Johnny’s Half Shell) on Don Rockwell.com and found her comment on ingredients to be very insightful and similar to my own thoughts on cooking.  She of course has […]

Acorn squash…that other squash at the pumpkin patch.

October 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Ohh the trip to the pumpkin patch! No matter how old I get, I vow to never skip such a great fall ritual.
This past weekend some friends and I made the trip up to Homestead Farms. We’ve been a few times since moving to D.C. and without fail, as we drove down the dusty road […]

Pumpkin soup at Au Bon

October 11th, 2007 · No Comments

I’m not usually one for chains and try to avoid them during my lunchtime meanderings, but the other day I noticed that Au Bon Pain has embraced fall (even before mother nature decided to) and is now serving Harvest Pumpkin Soup.
Naturally I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised.  The creamy consistency was nicely matched […]

Patisserie Poupon-A Georgetown destination

October 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Georgetown is a shoppers destination point, but when it comes to food, for many people the neighborhood isn’t the first that comes to mind.  Recent additions, such as Hook are bringing it up in status, and old standards such as Citronelle and 1789 will wow you every time, but the area lacks good cheap restaurants where you can […]

Veritas wine bar…wine on tap.

October 8th, 2007 · No Comments

There is a trend happening…wine bars are breaking into the mainstream. All I have to say to this is, “It’s about time!” Some time ago I decided that I needed to break up my weekends and try something other than the typical bud light/miller light serving bar. I’m not saying these bars are bad…they serve […]

Value priced California wines?

October 5th, 2007 · No Comments

“Value-priced line of wines that exceed expectations in their depth, elegance, and overall punch for the buck,” is the sentence that caught my attention from today’s Washingtonian blog.
It’s subject…Joel Gott Wines.
With some of the prices at $11, $15 and $17 I’m planning to pick up a bottle and see if they really “exceed expectations.”

Martinis at Le Chat Noir

October 4th, 2007 · No Comments

Nothing says “we appreciate you” like a free martini.
A few weeks back, I found myself reentering the doors of Le Chat Noir’s wine lounge, this time for a complementary tasting of their martinis.
Yes, I’ve been back there a few times, but honestly who is going to turn down a free martini at what has already […]

Pumpkin Dip

October 1st, 2007 · 4 Comments

    +        = YUM
As most of you know, I’ve been on a pumpkin kick lately.  There’s something about that big orange gourd that really gets me into the fall spirit.  As I sat at my house contemplating what dessert to make for an upcoming pot-luck dinner, I received an e-mail from my aunt with a […]
